Life Cycle Sleep Disorders
Life cycle sleep disorders affect young and old alike. Sleep is a process where the body goes into the state of relaxation. The most essential step required for any relaxation technique is to slow down the brain activity by driving away thoughts that keep us worried, anxious or even ecstatically happy. As a young adult there are problems of work, relationships, family etc that keep us occupied all throughout the day time. As the night approaches, these transform into worries, anxiety and therefore into life cycle sleep disorders. People may be anxious and stressed about anything under the sun...office appraisals, arrival of guests to name a few. It's not just the adults who worry. Anxiety is a feeling which is common to children as well. Children are curious about the world around them and its functioning. All these feelings can lead to life cycle sleep disorders. If you are not able to have a proper sleep for a day or two, it cannot actually be termed as a sleeping disorder. A sleep disorder is a prolonged difficulty in achieving good night sleep. It is common to have life cycle sleep disorders after a loss of some loved one or after a long distance travel. life cycle sleep disorder can have manifold faces. Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder and can be dangerous if left untreated. Insomnia can be categorized into three basic types- transient, acute and chronic. Transient insomnia occurs from a jet lag or may be a short term anxiety. It normally affects a person's sleep for few days to around a week. If the episodes of transient insomnia keep occurring from time to time, then it is termed as intermittent insomnia. Acute insomnia occurs for a period of few weeks to around a month or so. The chronic insomnia is a serious sleep disorder in which the person is not able to sleep every night for months. Life cycle sleep disorder, whether insomnia or any other can cause serious health concerns in both the children and adults. Sleep disorders in children can hamper their growth process and can give rise to learning disabilities. Sleep disorder in adults can cause decreased work performance, driving difficulties and irritation. Insomnia can also be caused due to illness from some disease or psychological problem. Depression can also give rise to insomnia. People suffering from insomnia often need medicinal and psychological help. People suffering from life cycle sleep disorder often tend to rely on sedatives and sleeping pills. In case of insomnia, these pills can cause addiction to the body and in due course of time, the body gets so used to them that they don't work.
